1. Pray for Help

In prayer, ask God to help you release the underlying trauma you have experienced. Our negative actions, along with the negative relationships we have with others, typically cause trauma. To heal, we must Feel it, Thank it, and Let it Go.

2. Identify the Emotion you are Feeling

Using the emotion/feeling wheel below,

3. Essential Oil Support

Remember, the best support comes from healthy relationships with others (God, parents, spouse, sibling, friend, and counselor/mentor). Identify the essential oil that helps support your negative/positive emotions. Then, apply it by smelling it, taking it internally with water, or applying it topically.

4. Journal

Daily write down the things you are grateful for, such as health, a job, loving children/spouse/parents/friends, and so on. Then take it a step further and write the how that makes you feel.

5. A.S.K.

Ask, Seek, Knock (ASK). What is your plan to develop habits that negate your negative emotions? For example, I feel embarrassed about how I neglected and abused my body over the years. If I can feel God’s love for me, I can learn to love myself again. So, I plan to ask God daily for comfort, support, and guidance. Act on the impressions I receive, such as saying a prayer and blessing on everything I eat and drink. I seek/search for a better way of life by turning to God. I knock/take action now. I know enough to begin. With my limited knowledge, I stopped doing those negative things and started doing those positive things.

Categories of Emotional ExperiencesVivid SubcategoriesEmotions and FeelingsPhysical Symptoms to prepare for, respond to, or recover from
Fear-Based StatesTerror and DreadBlindsided, Death/Living (Fear of), Helpless, Frightened, Unsafe, Fear (General), Petrified, Terror, Terrorized, Trapped, Panicked, Doom, DreadIntense physical reactions such as a pounding heart or heart palpitations, profuse sweating, trembling or shaking, shortness of breath or hyperventilation, and a feeling of choking or tightness in the throat. Individuals might also experience a surge of adrenaline, leading to a fight-or-flight response, which can manifest in an urge to flee, muscle tension, and sometimes, digestive issues like nausea or diarrhea due to the extreme activation of the body’s stress response.
Anxiety and UneaseAnxiety, Anxious, Adrenal Exhaustion, Chaous, Claustrophobia, Claustrophobic, Confusion, Confused, Crisis, Erratic Energy, Flustered, Frozen, Hysterical, Hypervigilance, Mind (Overactive or Racing), Overwhelmed, Panic, Panicked, Paranoia, Parnanoid, Scattered, Sleepless, Stress (Emotional/Physical), Stressed (Emotional/Physical), Tired, Troubled, Uncertain, Unsure, Worried, Worry, WorrisomeIncreased heart rate, sweating, dry mouth, muscle tension, particularly in the shoulders and neck, headaches, and stomach issues such as butterflies or nausea. Anxiety often leads to a state of restlessness, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, and sleep disturbances. Physical symptoms might also include light-headedness or dizziness and a sense of impending doom or panic without a clear reason.
Insecurity and DoubtAbandonment (Fear of), Attachment (Fear of losing), Control (Fear of losing), Engulfment, Incompetent, Intimacy (Fear of), Not Good Enough, Not Safe (To be in my body, to be me, to express essence, to live in this world), Inadequate, Inferior, Prideful, Scarcity, Self-Doubt, Uncertainty, Unsure, Unworthy, What is Wrong with me, Vulnerable, VulnerabilityWhile less acute than terror, feelings of insecurity and doubt can lead to a persistent low-grade stress response, manifesting as muscle tension, fatigue due to overthinking, and possibly headaches or stomach discomfort. Individuals might exhibit nervous behaviors like fidgeting, nail-biting, or pacing. Sleep can be affected, leading to insomnia or disturbed sleep patterns due to constant worry or self-doubt.
Weakness and HelplessnessDefenseless, Helpless, Inadequate, Inferiority, Impotent, Insignificant, Vulnerable, Powerless, Incapacitated, Depleted, Depletion, Timid, Worthless, Weak (Appearing), WeaknessA sense of physical fatigue or exhaustion, even without physical exertion, might accompany feelings of weakness. There could be a lack of energy or motivation, leading to a decrease in physical activity. This state might also cause a person to feel physically vulnerable, potentially manifesting in a lowered immune response due to chronic stress, making them more susceptible to illnesses. Muscle weakness or a feeling of being physically weighed down, along with a slumped posture, might occur as outward signs of internal helplessness.
Threat and DangerAnnihilation, Bondage (Fear of), Choked, Attacked, Bullied, Confined, Controlled, Dominated, Escape, Exposed, Facing the World (Fear of), Intimidated, Movement (Fear of), Nervous, Paralyzed, Past (Fear of repeating), Punishment (Fear of), Resistance (Fear of movement), Seeing (Fear of), Smothered, Speaking Out (Fear of), Suffocated, Success (Fear of), Truth (Fear of hearing the), Trapped, Unfolding (Fear of), Unknown (Fear of the), Wisdom (Fear of), Unsafe, Similar to terror, but with a focus on immediate response to perceived danger, symptoms include rapid heartbeat, dilated pupils (to take in more visual information quickly), increased blood flow to muscles (preparing for action), and possibly a dry mouth or sweating. There might be a heightened state of alertness, leading to physical reactions like jumping at sudden sounds or movements, and a readiness to either confront or escape from the threat. Digestive processes might slow down as the body diverts resources to muscles and vital organs, leading to potential stomach upset.
Social-Connection StatesRejection and IsolationAbandoned, Deserted, Desertion, Discarded, Excluded, Ignored (Being), Not Mattering, Not Wanted, Left Out, Left Behind, Persecuted, Rejected, Rejection, Separated, Unwelcome, Unwelcomed, Unwanted, Neglected, UnimportantFeelings of rejection and isolation can lead to a noticeable drop in energy levels, resulting in physical fatigue or lethargy as the body responds to emotional distress. There might be changes in appetite, either leading to overeating or loss of appetite. Sleep patterns can be disrupted, causing insomnia or excessive sleeping. Individuals might experience physical withdrawal symptoms like a desire to stay in bed or avoid social interactions, which can manifest as a literal ‘weight’ on their body, making movement feel more laborious. Muscle tension, especially around the neck and shoulders, can occur due to the stress of feeling disconnected or unwanted.
Betrayal and DisappointmentBetrayed, Deceived, Cheated, Disappointed, Disappointment, Let Down, Unsupported, Used, Taken for Granted, ExploitedBetrayal and disappointment can trigger a stress response similar to that of anxiety, with symptoms like heart palpitations, increased blood pressure, and a feeling of tightness in the chest. Digestive issues such as stomach pain, nausea, or changes in bowel habits might arise due to the emotional turmoil. There could also be a noticeable increase in fatigue, headaches, and a general sense of malaise. Individuals might find themselves with a lower pain threshold or more prone to illnesses due to a compromised immune system as a result of chronic stress.
Humiliation and ShameAshamed, Belittled, Berated, Controlling, Degraded, Disrespected, Embarrassed, Humiliated, Humiliation, Ridiculed, Inferior, Pathetic, Shamed, StupidHumiliation and shame can cause an immediate physical reaction like blushing or flushing due to embarrassment. There might be a desire to physically shrink or hide oneself, resulting in slumped posture or avoidance behaviors. Muscle tension, particularly in the face, neck, and shoulders, can occur. Individuals might experience a churning stomach or a feeling of being ‘sick to their stomach’ as a direct response to these emotions. Over time, chronic feelings of shame could lead to tension headaches or a persistent feeling of being unwell.
Emotional Distance and DisconnectionAlone (Being), Aloneness, Disconnected, Detached, Dissociated, Aloof, Estranged, Isolated, Isolation, Loneliness, Lonely, Not Belonging, Numb, Separate, WithdrawnEmotional distance or feeling distant from others can manifest physically in several ways. There might be a sense of numbness or coldness, not just emotionally but physically, where the body feels less responsive to external stimuli. This could lead to behaviors like avoiding eye contact or physical touch, which are signs of withdrawal. Individuals might report feeling ‘disconnected’ from their own
Angry-Based StatesResentment and BitternessBitterness, Contempt, Cynical, Cynicism, Grudge, Indignant, Resentment, Resentful, Revenge, Vengeance, Violated,  Hate, HatredThese emotions, when harbored over time, can lead to chronic stress symptoms like constant fatigue, a feeling of being emotionally drained, and persistent muscle tension, particularly in the back, shoulders, and jaw due to clenching. Digestive issues, such as stomach ulcers or indigestion, might develop due to prolonged stress. There can be a noticeable increase in blood pressure, and individuals might experience frequent headaches or migraines as a result of the emotional burden. The immune system might also be affected, leading to more frequent illnesses or a slower recovery from them.
Anger and FuryAnger, Angry, Hate or Hatred, Hostile, Hostility, Infuriated, Irritated, Irritation, Furious, Jealous, Mad, Malice, Rage, Fury, Infuriated, Pissed Off, Outraged, RageImmediate physical reactions to anger and fury include a rapid increase in heart rate, which can feel like the heart is pounding or racing. Blood pressure spikes, leading to a feeling of heat, especially in the face, due to blood vessels dilating. Muscles tense up, readying the body for a ‘fight’ response, which can be particularly noticeable in the fists, jaw, and shoulders. Breathing becomes faster and shallower as the body prepares for action. Some people might experience a surge of adrenaline, leading to a burst of energy but also potentially to physical shaking or trembling. There can also be a dry mouth, sweating, and in extreme cases, a tendency towards physical aggression or the urge to throw or break things.
Aggression and HostilityAggression, Aggressive, Attack (Physical, Verbal, Psychic), Attacked, Bully, Bullying, Controlling by Attacking, Cruel, Defiance, Defiant, Intolerance (General), Intolerant, Lashing Out, Obscene ("F— You"), Outrage, Outraged, Possessiveness, Provoked, Pushed, Quarrelsome, Rebellion, Rebellious, Retribution, Revenge, Rude, Settling Scores, Violence, Hostile, Rage, Violent, Cruel, Attacking, Bullying, Domineering, Abusive, DestructiveSimilar to anger but with a more outward expression, aggression can lead to elevated cortisol levels, contributing to stress-related physical issues like increased heart rate, high blood pressure, and muscle tension. The physical readiness for confrontation might lead to clenched fists, a tight jaw, or even grinding teeth. There could be a noticeable increase in body temperature, especially in the face and neck, due to the rush of blood to these areas. Aggression might also manifest as a flushed face, and in extreme cases, individuals might engage in physical altercations, which could lead to injuries.

These can include muscle tension (especially in the neck and shoulders), headaches due to this tension, and increased heart rate and blood pressure, though typically less dramatic than in full-blown anger. There might be a feeling of restlessness or an inability to sit still, and individuals might exhibit nervous habits like tapping feet or drumming fingers. Digestive discomfort, such as bloating or an upset stomach, can also occur, reflecting the body’s response to ongoing stress. Over time, chronic frustration can lead to fatigue, as the constant state of alertness or irritation drains energy levels.
Judgment StatesCriticism and ScrutinyCriticism, Criticized, Skeptical, Dismissive, Judged, Judgmental, Contemptuous, Cynical, Suspicious, Untrusting, Disapproving, Disdainful, Self-Blame, Self-CriticismEngaging in or receiving criticism can lead to physical manifestations of stress, such as muscle tension particularly in the neck, shoulders, and back, due to the body’s readiness to defend itself or the mental strain of constantly analyzing or being analyzed. Headaches or migraines might occur from overthinking or stress. There could also be an increase in heart rate and blood pressure, reflecting the body’s stress response. Individuals might experience sleep disturbances, such as insomnia, due to ruminating thoughts about the criticism or how to respond to scrutiny. Digestive issues, like stomach knots or nausea, could also arise as the body reacts to the emotional discomfort.

The face might contort into expressions of disgust, such as curling the upper lip or showing a grimace. There could be an increase in salivation or a dry mouth, depending on the trigger. The body might also exhibit a recoiling motion or a desire to physically distance oneself from the source of disgust. Over time, if these feelings are chronic or related to social interactions, it could lead to stress-related symptoms like increased heart rate, sweating, and heightened alertness to avoid situations that might provoke disgust. Appetite can be significantly affected, leading to weight loss from not eating or weight gain from emotional eating. There’s often a noticeable lack of energy, which can make physical movement feel labored or pointless. Individuals might exhibit signs of neglect in personal care, such as not bathing regularly or not attending to medical needs, reflecting their internal state of not seeing the point in self-maintenance. There’s also a risk of substance abuse or other harmful behaviors as coping mechanisms, which can further degrade physical health. On a more subtle level, despair and hopelessness can manifest in a lack of physical responsiveness or vitality, with individuals often reporting feeling ‘numb’ or ‘disconnected’ from their own bodies, as if they’re just going through the motions without really being present or engaged with the world around them.

Individuals might experience a tightness in the throat or difficulty swallowing, indicative of the emotional blockage or the urge to cry. There can also be a feeling of physical exhaustion or fatigue, as the body responds to the stress of emotional injury. Sleep might be affected, with either insomnia from overthinking or excessive sleep as an escape. Muscle tension, especially in the back, neck, and shoulders, can occur due to the stress of feeling hurt, leading to headaches or migraines. There’s also an increased susceptibility to infections or a prolonged recovery time from illness due to a weakened immune system. Fatigue can also lead to changes in appetite, either loss or increase, which might not necessarily be linked to hunger but more to the body’s overall state of exhaustion. Over time, chronic fatigue can affect physical health significantly, potentially leading to or worsening conditions like obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases due to the body’s inability to recover properly or maintain optimal metabolic functions.
