#1 Preserve natural taste of foods and beverages
As you might have observed fermented beverages like kombucha, wine and beer are packaged in glass bottles. Same with essential oils and acidic foods like tomato sauces.
#2 Thermal shock resistance
Mason jars made of soda lime glass will easily crack with a sudden temperature change (i.e. thermal shock). For instance, taking a mason jar from the refriderator (say it was storing fruit and food supplements such as coconut oil, cacao powder, etc) and adding boiling water, will crack the jar.
