Task 50 pts: Install SSL Certificate

(completed 2024-0923)

You don’t add an SSL certificate directly to WordPress, Divi or WooCommerce. Instead, you need to enable SSL on your website hosting (namehero.com). SSL is crucial for secure e-commerce transactions and is required for WooCommerce shopping cart to function properly.

Once you have SSL enabled, make sure your WordPress settings reflect this:

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard → Settings → General
  2. Ensure both “WordPress Address (URL)” and “Site Address (URL)” use the HTTPS protocol

If the web hosting provider doesn’t provide SSL, then switch to namehero.com hosting. If this is feasible, then consider using the WordPress plugin “Really Simple SSL” (see www.really-simple-ssl.com). This can help fix protocol errors that could potentially lead to Divi Builder timeout issues.

To verify SSL is enabled with the web hosting provider, login to the web hosting provider, which is namehero.com for Barefoot Betters. Then go to the cPanel -> Security -> SSL/TLS Status

If the domain name is listed, then SSL certificate has been installed for the domain. Remember, having SSL is essential for a secure online store and smooth operation of WordPress, Divi, and WooCommerce features.

Products

Ideal Products Solve These Problems

The Three Core Customer Needs:

  1. Money: Will this product help me earn or save money?
  2. Time: Will this product save me time?
  3. Quality of Life: Will this product improve the quality of my life?

This framework is powerful in its simplicity and comprehensiveness. It provides a clear lens through which to evaluate any product or service. Here’s a brief expansion on each:

  1. Money: This covers both earning potential and cost savings. Products that either increase income or reduce expenses address this need.
  2. Time: In our fast-paced world, time is often equated with money. Products that save time or increase efficiency are highly valued.
  3. Quality of Life: This encompasses many factors, including health, happiness, comfort, personal relationships, and personal growth. Products that enhance overall well-being fall into this category.

Example product description of how Barefoot Betters’ Travel Soap Container meets these three core needs:

  • Peace of mind knowing your soap won’t leak or create a mess in your bag
  • Maintain your hygiene routine with your preferred soap, even when away from home
  • Reduce travel stress by having one less thing to worry about
  • Contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing plastic waste from liquid soap bottles

Product Packaging

FNSKU should be the only barcode on your packaging:

Step 1) Universal Product Codes (UPC), also known as GTIN-12. Amazon requires you to have this when in Seller Central to create a listing (but it doesn’t have to be displayed on the product). You purchase UPC from www.gs1us.org. Each product needs a unique UPC, even if the only difference between the products is the color or size (S, M, L, XL).

Step 2) on the actual packaging, need to add the FNSKU Barcode along with the Country of Origin (where it was manufactured).

Step 3) product inserts for branding with company contact info (email, website, and social media). The goal is to steer the customer to barefootbetters.com to leave their email, as Amazon doesn’t share this. Example from bumblebee lines: “free napkin folding tutorials – bumblebeelinens.com/napkinfolding.” Amazon will suspend you if guiding people off Amazon and onto your website. Also encourage customers to email barefootbetters.com instead of Amazon to resolve issues immediately.

Step 4) Packaging should show 1) value proposition, 2) brand logo, 3) bold colors, 4) alternative materials, and 5) focus on what the customer wants. Remember, premium packaging needs to be displayed with the product on Amazon, as you can typically charge more money. https://outlinematic.com/pricing/
